At Heritage Hill Dental, we are dedicated to offering our patients cutting-edge, biologically compatible treatments. We have integrated ozone therapy, a natural and innovative approach, to enhance your dental care and promote optimal oral health.

What is Ozone?

Ozone is three atoms of oxygen bound together as O3 (three oxygen atoms). In nature, it is created when oxygen interacts with UV radiation from the sun, lightning, or our body’s immune system. Medical ozone/oxygen (MOZO) used in dental procedures is artificially created by passing medical-grade oxygen through a high-energy electrical field of a medically tested device that creates reproducible levels of ozone at specific doses.

The gas produced is a combination of oxygen and ozone, usually on the order of over 99% oxygen and less than 1% ozone. The resulting combined oxygen/ozone gas can be collected in a syringe for direct use, bubbled through water to make a powerful, non-toxic irrigant, or bubbled through various oils such as olive oil to greatly enhance the shelf-life activity of ozone and a dependable commercial product. The reliability of medical ozone devices to produce these pure, precise, small amounts have been verified by third-party and/or government laboratory testing.

What is Ozone Therapy?

Ozone therapy is a treatment used to disinfect tissues, including gums, teeth, and bone, as well as to support tissue regeneration. Ozone is a negatively charged particle that naturally seeks to neutralize anything with a positive charge.

Bacteria, viruses, and fungi all carry a positive charge, which allows the negatively charged ozone to target and neutralize them, effectively destroying these pathogens and disinfecting the area. In fact, ozone is 8,000 times more effective at killing bacteria than chlorine.

Examples of Uses

  • Periodontal Disease

    • We use ozone gas and ozonated water to disinfect areas affected by gum disease. The pathogens responsible for gum disease are immediately neutralized upon contact with ozone. For cases of severe periodontal disease, we can create custom trays for our patients, allowing them to regularly deliver ozone to the infected areas.

  • Tooth Decay

    • Ozone gas and ozonated water serve as effective disinfectants for teeth before the placement of a filling. This innovative technique enhances the predictability of the filling's success by thoroughly eliminating harmful bacteria and promoting a cleaner environment within the tooth. Additionally, the use of ozone helps to minimize post-treatment sensitivity, allowing patients to experience a more comfortable recovery after their dental procedure. By incorporating these advanced methods, our doctors can ensure a more successful and less painful experience for their patients.

  • Oral Hygiene

    • Ozonated water is an effective mouth rinse that helps eliminate harmful bacteria, which can lead to oral health problems. To maintain high water quality, we incorporate ozonated water into our advanced reverse osmosis water system. This combination enhances both the quality and safety of the water we use for our patients during all of their procedures.

  • Mouth Sores & Injuries
    • Ozonated oils have a range of applications, with one of the most notable being their effectiveness as a soothing treatment for cold sores and canker sores. Infused with ozone, these oils possess unique properties that promote healing in affected areas, making them a natural remedy for various skin infections and irritations. Their therapeutic qualities provide a gentle yet powerful option for alleviating discomfort and supporting the healing process. We offer these applications in our office for the convenience of our patients.
